Cultural Educational Center ZMAJ aims to preserve cultural heritage and languages of the peoples of the former Yugoslavia (primarily Serbian/Croatian/Bosnian). The goal is to help the children and the adults of the Yugoslav origin keep and develop knowledge, love and pride in their cultural origins. We believe that knowledge of one’s own culture is the keystone for building strong and creative identities. Moreover, we believe that education in one’s culture of origin also helps strengthening and creating more meaningful ties to the host culture.
The Center will achieve its goals through developing creative educational and cultural programs, primarily for young children, in all areas: language, literature and poetry; music and dance; art and photography; traditional childrenâ’s games, customs and folklore; history, heroes and legends; culinary arts and sports. To support the educational and cultural programs, the Center will create collections of materials aimed at children and adults: books, magazines, newspapers, films, musical tapes and CDs and other.
